Human Resources Manager

Remote
Full Time
Senior Manager/Supervisor

Our client, Black Girl Ventures (BGV), is seeking a strategic, people-centered, and mission-driven Human Resources Manager to lead their HR function. This role is primarily remote (U.S.-based only), supporting a nationally distributed team.

At BGV, Community or Nothing isn't just a motto—it's a movement. This bold, visionary nonprofit is dedicated to creating access to capital, capacity, and community for under-resourced entrepreneurs, enabling business sustainability and fostering intergenerational wealth for a more equitable society.

Responsibilities:

This is a full-scope, strategic HR role where you'll:

  • Serve as a department of one, reporting to the CEO and partnering closely with leadership
  • Own the entire employee lifecycle: recruitment, onboarding, performance management, offboarding
  • Administer semi-monthly payroll (via Gusto), benefits, and leave—including deductions, contributions, and compliance
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws across multiple states (including CA, PA, NC, TX, and more)
  • Review and update company policies and SOPs regularly
  • Build and manage employee engagement, morale, and sentiment programs
  • Be the trusted go-to for employees who need a sounding board, a resource, or someone to help them feel heard
  • Serve as a strategic voice on the leadership team, helping shape the culture and supporting our long-term expansion plans

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 3+ years of human resources management experience
  • Hands-on experience with payroll, benefits administration, and compliance
  • Strong knowledge of employment-related laws and multi-state regulations
  • Demonstrated leadership in employee engagement and culture-building initiatives
  • Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills, with the ability to build trust across all levels of the organization
  • Comfort working independently and making decisions with integrity and professionalism—balancing employee advocacy with alignment to organizational goals
  • Confident engaging with the C-suite, including offering feedback and making proactive, data-informed recommendations to improve team experience and operations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn tools like Gusto (or similar HRIS platforms)

Bonus Points If You Have:

  • Professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR)
  • Experience designing and leading sentiment surveys, DEIB-centered culture activities, or morale-boosting programs
  • Experience evaluating or implementing HR systems to support growth and automation
  • Experience scaling people operations in lean, mission-driven environments
